Report on the State of nature by the German federal Government for the 16th electoral term

In May 2005 the German federal government first published a report on the state of nature. The cur-rent report, covering the 16th electoral term, follows on from the earlier reports.

The preservation and sustainable use of biodiversity is at the heart of the federal government’s conservation policy. Biodiversity comprises the diversity of habitats and species, and the genetic diversity within species.

The current report on the state of nature contains an inventory and analysis of the threats to biodiversity, the federal government’s priorities for nature conservation, and prospects for the future conserva-tion and sustainable use of biodiversity.

Detailed information on the state of nature can be found in the 2008 "Nature Data" report published by the German Federal Agency for Nature Conserva-tion (BfN) and in the 2005 "Environment Data" report published by the Federal Environment Agency (UBA), both of which form the basis of this report.
