The 51st meeting of the German-French Commission on the Safety of Nuclear Installations (DFK) was held in Cadarache, France on 11 and 12 June. It was organised by ASNR, the French authority for nuclear safety and radiation protection. The German delegation led by the Federal Environment Ministry also included representatives of the nuclear regulatory authorities of Baden-Württemberg, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland as well as of the Gesellschaft für Anlagen- und Reaktorsicherheit (GRS) gGmbH.
The exchange included organisational changes on both sides and the current activities and challenges in nuclear safety, emergency preparedness and response and management of nuclear waste in both countries. The open and in-depth discussions between the German and French regulatory authorities confirmed the continued high importance of the annual commission meeting for both countries.
This meeting was also an opportunity to visit the building site of the ITER experimental fusion reactor currently under construction at Cadarache.
The regulatory authorities will continue their trustful exchange on operating experience and lessons learned in the field of nuclear safety and safety aspects of new technologies. The next DFK meeting will take place in Germany in 2026.
