52nd meeting of the French-German commission on safety issues in nuclear installations

At the 52nd DFK meeting in Garching near Munich, the representatives discussed, among other things, challenges related to nuclear safety, emergency preparedness, and nuclear waste disposal.

The 52nd meeting of the French-German commission on safety issues in nuclear installations was held in Garching near Munich on 1 and 2 of July. It was organized by BMUKN. The German delegation comprised representatives from safety authority of Baden-Württemberg, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland as well as from BASE and GRS. France was represented by colleagues from ASNR, the French authority for nuclear safety and radiation protection.

The exchange included, among other things, organizational changes on both sides and the current activities and challenges in nuclear safety, emergency preparedness and response, the management of nuclear waste in both countries and the respective regulatory activities in the field of radiation protection and fusion. The open and intense discussions between the German and French regulatory authorities confirmed the continued high importance of the annual commission meeting for both countries.

This meeting was also the occasion to visit research neutron source FRM II on the premises of the campus of the Technical University of Munich in Garching.

The regulatory authorities will continue their trustful exchange in the field of nuclear safety and safety aspects of new technologies. The next DFK meeting will take place in France in 2027.
