Federal Environment Minister Carsten Schneider travels to New Delhi for the 4th Indo-German Environment Forum
Federal Environment Minister Carsten Schneider begins a four-day visit to India today. During the trip he will meet with the Indian environment minister and other government representatives to discuss environmental and climate issues. The main object of the visit is the 4th Indo-German Environment Forum under the theme "Together For More Resilience". Minister Schneider will open the Forum with his Indian counterpart in New Delhi. The Forum is the Federal Environment Ministry's main bilateral format with the Indian Environment Ministry and is organised together with business associations. This year's Forum will focus on circular economy, biodiversity, climate action and adaptation, clean technology and sustainable finance. A high-level business delegation is travelling with Minister Schneider and will participate in the Environment Forum.
Federal Environment Minister Carsten Schneider: "India is increasingly important as a trading partner for Germany and the EU and vital for resilient supply chains. But India is also a key partner for Germany in tackling global environmental and climate challenges. With the Environment Forum, we are strengthening our partnership and advancing our joint interests. This is particularly true for the energy transition. India is experiencing a renewable energy boom and can supply the public with inexpensive electricity. Germany is benefiting from this boom too, as German companies are leaders in the field of clean tech."
The Indo-German Environment Forum is the highest-level bilateral format of the two countries in the field of environmental policy and has been held regularly since 2008. It is jointly organised by the two environment ministries (Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety, BMUKN and the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, MoEFCC), together with the Asia-Pacific Committee of German Business (APA) and Indian business associations. At this year's Indo-German Environment Forum the 200 participants will discuss sustainable technologies, sustainable finance, biodiversity, resource efficiency, circular economy and investment mobilisation. India is the world’s largest location of the German Chambers of Commerce Abroad (AHK). There are around 2,000 German companies with subsidiaries in India, some 700 of them producing locally.
