Environmental Technology Atlas for Germany

For Germany, as a technological and industrial hub, the importance of green technologies and services cannot be overestimated. The cross-cutting green tech sector is developing at a highly dynamic rate and makes an important contribution to environmental protection, climate action and resource conservation. That is why the Federal Environment Ministry (BMUKN) has the technological and economic trends of this sector analysed every few years.

Based on an extensive market analysis and survey among relevant companies, the GreenTech Atlas analyses and assesses international and national markets and categorises their macroeconomic market position. The GreenTech Atlas 2025 was developed by the German Environment Agency (UBA) in close coordination with the BMUKN as part of a research project and presented on 25 June 2025 during the GreenTech Atlas Conference under the heading “Competitive into the Future”.  The new Atlas shows that the German green tech sector is growing at a much faster rate than traditional industrial sectors, is firmly integrated into global trade and is a driver of innovation in many areas. It also demonstrates a high degree of resilience to crises. The green tech sector is thus not just important for the environment and climate, it is also a key sector and stabilising factor for the German economy.

As part of their cooperation to strengthen the German environmental sector, the BMUKN and the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DIHK) jointly decided to pool their databases in the ecoFinder portal of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK).
