This brochure examines the causes and consequences of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster, which continue to this day. Forty years after the accident, it sheds light on both the sequence of events and the long-term effects on people, the environment, and politics.
The brochure addresses the suffering of those affected, describes the environmental consequences that persist to this day, and explains the measures taken to secure the accident site. It also outlines how international cooperation contributes to financing and what prospects exist for the site’s future.
Current developments, such as the effects of the ongoing war in Ukraine, are also taken into account. The aim is to help people understand the significance of Chernobyl for our present and future and to highlight the lessons learned from the disaster.
