With the adoption of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF), the new global framework for biological diversity, new global targets for the protection, restoration, and sustainable use of biological diversity have been in place since December 2022. For the first time, it has been possible to agree not only on ambitious targets, but also on mechanisms for effective implementation, monitoring, and adequate financing. All 196 parties to the CBD, including Germany, are now called upon to implement the decisions and adapt their national strategies for the protection and sustainable use of biological diversity (known as national biodiversity strategies and action plans, NBSAPs) .
With the further development of the National Strategy on Biological Diversity into NBS 2030, the German government intends to fulfill its responsibility for biological diversity in Germany and worldwide and make an ambitious contribution to the implementation of the GBF and the EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030. The new National Strategy on Biological Diversity 2030 (NBS 2030) will address all issues central to biodiversity conservation with targets and concrete measures to achieve them.
